The King’s Speech receives 12 Oscar nominations
The King’s Speech, a British drama directed by Tom Hooper starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Derek Jacobi detailing the efforts of wartime monarch King George VI to overcome a fierce stammer, led the Oscar field on Tuesday with 12 nominations.
True Grit, a Western remake about a young girl’s brave quest to track down her father’s killer, followed with 10 nominations. The sci-fi thriller Inception and the Facebook drama The Social Network received eight nominations each. The Mark Wahlberg starrer, The Fighter bagged seven nominations, while Danny Boyle’s 127 hours got six. Black Swan received five nominations and Toy Story 3 also ended up with five nominations.
Winners of the 83rd annual Academy Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Hollywood on February 27.
