Shobha Rani of SVR Media bagged the Telugu version rights of AR Murugadoss’ upcoming Tamil film Thuppakki for a whopping Rs 15 crores. There was intense competition for the Telugu rights with Bellamkonda Suresh, Geetha Films, Suresh Films and Dil Raju in the fray. The Telugu version is likely to be titled Thupaaki.
Thuppakki stars Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead roles while Vidyut Jamwal plays a pivotal role. The music is composed by Harris Jayaraj. Cinematography is by Santosh Sivan, who did not use the usual 35MM camera to shoot the film, but was said to have exploited the latest Arri digital technology that was introduced in 2011, becoming one of the first persons in the world to make use of the technology.
AR Murugadoss, who tasted success with Ghajini and Stalin, did not get similar response to his last venture 7th Sense starring Surya. However, Thuppakki has created a positive buzz about it with Gemini Film Circuit buying the distribution rights for a record sum and Vijay TV paying the highest price for telecast rights.
The director is on record stating that he is in discussions with akshay kumar to remake Thuppakki in Hindi.
Both the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film are being planned for a Diwali release.
