Sunny Deol As Sanskrit Teacher In Mohalla Assi
Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who made the 1991 television epic Chanakya, is directing a film titled Mohalla Assi, which is a screen adaptation of Dr. Kashinath Singh’s novel Kashi Assi. In 2003, Dwivedi made Pinjar, a tragic love story set amidst the Hindu-Muslim tensions during the Partition of India, based on Amrita Pritam’s novel of the same name.
Sunny Deol plays the protagonist in Mohalla Assi in the role of a Sanskrit teacher Dharmanath Pandey, an honest Banarasi, who battles against drug trade and the growing pornography market in the Banaras Ghats.
The star cast includes Sakshi Tanwar, Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Tiwari, Sourabh Shukla and Rajendra Gupta, who play important roles.
The entire film was shot in and around Varanasi and at the ghats at the banks of river Ganges. The film is produced by Vinay Tiwari under the banner of Crossword Entertainment. The film is now in post production and is being planned for a November release.
