JK.Bharavi who cast a magic spell with his dialogues in Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu,Sri Manjunatha,Pandurangadu is coming with his debut directorial venture. He selected Adi Sankaracharya biopic as subject and let us see what impression he made on viewers.
Sankara (Kaushik Babu) even before the age of 8yrs masters all the four vedas. After his father’s death, he wish to become a sage. However his mother turns against it but finally relents after a crocodile catches him in Purna river. Sankara from his birth place Kaladi goes in search of his guru Govinda Bhagavadpadula (Srihari). He learns ‘Jalasthambana’, ‘Agnisthambana’,'Vaayusthambana’ and ‘Parakaya Pravesha’( leaving one’s own soul and entering others) etc.
He takes upon himself to preach advaita and change people who are quarreling among themselves getting divided on caste and creed lines. After defeating Kapalikudu (Suman) he goes to Kashi where he was shown his place by Chandala (Nagarjuna).
Sankara debates Mandana Misra(Sai Kumar) and when he was about to accept defeat his wife (Kamalini Mukherjee) asks questions about marriage life. Sankara seeks some time and unravels the truth from (Kamna Jethmalani) wife of a King (Upendra) by enterting his the body.
He later becomes Sarada Peetham head and after travelling entire India four times makes heavenly abode from Sarvagnana Peetham,Kashmir.
Kaushik gave sterling performance as Sankaracharya. Chiranjeevi voice took the film to new level. Nagarjuna is excellent as Chandala whie Srihari, Mohan babu showed their class in their roles.Suman as villain proved his strength once again.Sai Kumar and Kamalini, Kamna did their roles to perfection.
The film starts of slowly but picks up pace later. Second half romance of Upendra and Kamna is given more importance. Bharavi’s dialogues, screeenplay and direction is quite good. However many wondered why Chandala was shown without dogs!Advaita philosophy is not shown in full force.
Production values are good. Music and background score is beautiful. Editing is good. Cinematography is appealing.
Adi Sankara’s fate depends on family viewers and devotional flick lovers.
