SP Balu Upset Over Present Trend In Music

SP Balasubrahmanyam is a unique Indian singer, who with no formal training made it to the heights of playback singing in many languages with a career spanning over three decades. The Veteran singer, in a recent interview to a regional channel expressed a sense of anguish at the falling standards of playback singing and music composition. He said enough emphasis was not put on pronunciation and diction. “When I point out a certain deficiency, it is not received in the proper spirit. In fact there are baseless rumors being spread that “I cannot sing in certain high pitches.”

The much acclaimed singer said he has lent his voice for heroes across generations and had the privilege of singing with some truly great music composers. He however hastened to add that despite all these milestones, he still considered himself a student of music. He added that he welcomed competition, but sad that too much of it will not allow a singer to mature and reach his / her true potential. The maestro opined music has to be practiced in a manner of reverence and dedication and said that youth should take care while experimenting with fusion music
