SMS Movie Review
SMS is a Telugu remake of the Tamil movie Siva Manasula Sakthi. This is a teenage story where young lovers lie to impress each other. The story swings between love and hate with both the hero and heroine failing to understand their relationship.
Shiva (Sudhir Babu), a rash and reckless young man, works as a delivery man for Courier Company. He chances upon meeting Shruti (Regina) during a train journey and takes an instant liking to her. He tells her that he is in the Indian Army. She tells him that she is working as a hostess in an airline. In fact, she is working as a radio jockey at Radio Mirchi FM.
Once Shiva and Shruti know that they have lied to each other about their occupations, a sort of love-hate relationship develops between them. There is a flood of negative emotions swamping their relationship. In spite of all this, Shruti develops a soft love corner for Shiva. But his brashness spoils the show.
With twist in the tale, both Shiva and Shruthi have to make a crucial decision. Will they make it or break it – forms the rest of the story.
Sudhir Babu, brother-in-law of Mahesh Babu, making his debut with this film has the talent which has to be honed further. His chocolate face with the boy next door personality can become his asset in the future. Regina, surprisingly gives a very good performance. She is glamorous and emotes with conviction. Chanti as the hero’s friend does well. Rohini, Harsha Vardhan and Kasi Viswanath carry themselves with confidence. Vennela Kishore tickles the funny bone. All others are adequate.
The story has no thick plot as such and woven on the conflict of attitudes of the lead pair. And so, the treatment should have been more sensitive rather than loud and vague. Many of the incidents appear contrived. The screenplay is not gripping enough. However, director Tatineni Satya’s presentation of the film is good.
The dialogues lack the punch and do not reflect the characters attitudes.. Music by Selva Ganesh is good but a couple of songs are thrust into the narration breaking the flow. Cinematography by Chitti Babu is good. Production values are ok.
SMS is an average fare and there is no aspect in the film which can be the USP to make it succeed with the audience.
