“Aarakshan is anti-Dalit” claims the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. The upcoming Amitabh Bachchan– starrer directed by Prakash Jha, ‘Aarakshan’ deals with the sensitive issue of caste reservations and is being speculated as against reservations.
The Chairman of the Commission PL Punia said they will not allow it to hit the screens till they are satisfied after watching it. He said the Commission had written to the Film Censor Board that it wanted to watch this film before it is released next month. Punia said a meeting of the Commission with the censor board is fixed for July 25 on the issue. He added “Jha says he will not show the movie to the Commission but we have not even asked him as the matter is between us and the Censor Board.”
From the beginning of the career, Prakash Jha has had the guts to make films focusing on topics which questioned the fabric continuum of the society, be it Daamul, Gangajal, Mrityudand, Apaharan or Raajneeti. After all, when the censor board has cleared Aarakshan, then any other authority ought not to raise an objection against the content.
When Punia was asked about the Censor Board’s certificate to the film, he said that “the Commission had enough powers to intervene in the matter.”
