Award winning cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan made a period film in Malayalam titled Urumi which is making waves after its release. Buoyed by its success, Sivan is bringing out Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and English versions of the film. SVR Media bagged the Telugu dubbing rights of the film.
The film deals with time Vasco da Gama landed in India and the resistance of Indians against his atrocities. The film stars Prithviraj and Genelia in the lead roles, while Prabhu Deva, Arya, Vidya Balan and Tabu play important roles. Nithya Menon, Jagathy, Amole Gupte, Chandan Roy, Sanyal and others are part of the cast. Deepak Dev, a former disciple of AR Rahman has composed the music.
The film is produced by Santosh Sivan, Prithviraj and Shaji Natesan under the banner of August Cinema. The Telugu version, yet to be titled, is likely to be released in September.
