The Synopsis

Satyam (Vishal) is an Assistant Commissioner of Police with a reputation of being very sincere in discharging his duties. The girl next door (Nayanatara) is his love interest.
A situation arises when the Chief Minister is hospitalized and the Home Minister Kondala Rao (Kota Srinivasa Rao) wants the CM’s chair. However, there are three other contenders for the CM’s post, Mahadevayya (Santhanakrishnan), Chandramathi (Apoorva), and Punyakoti (Jeeva). So, the home minister wants to liquidate them through a professional assassin Delhi Babu (Ravi Kale).
Even before the killer could start his work, Mahadevayya and Chandramathi are killed. Then Satyam is given the task of unraveling the murder mystery. He finds that Prathapa Rudra (Upendra) is the killer.
There is a connection between Satyam and Prathapa Rudra which is told in a flashback. The rest of the film deals with the connection between Satyam and Prathapa Rudra, the motive for Prathapa Rudra’s actions and Satyam’s efforts to stem the rot of murderous politics.

The Performance

Vishal with a six pack abs body gives a good performance. Nayanatara is there only as a glamour quotient. Kota is his usual villainy self. Brahmanadam and Ali are not up to their normal potential. Upendra is very good in his negative role. All other characters are adequate in their roles.

The Techniques

The story is nothing new, but the narration is different. The screenplay could have been tighter with less of cinematic licenses. The action sequences have been filmed to thrill the stunt lovers. The songs are picturised glamourously to attract the mass. Cinematography is of high standards. The audiography is impressive.

The Verdict

Though a single sincere super cop setting right the political mess is too cinematic to be credible, Salute can be seen for its slick and stylish production values and the performances of Vishal and Upendra.
