Salman Khan to be brand ambassador of Indian Railways
The Indian Railways has reportedly approached Salman Khan to be its brand ambassador. The Railways are on a modernization mission and trying to usher in lot of passenger friendly initiatives. There will be a publicity campain by the Railways and they want Salman to be its face.
Bollywood’s top stars are roped in by the central and state governments to popularize their schemes. Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of Gujarat while Shah Rukh Khan endorses the Mumbai police website. Aamir Khan is the face of Indian tourism in its Incredible India campaign.
Salman Khan, if he agrees, will represent the largest public undertaking in India. Indian Railways has more than 64,215 kilometers of track and 7,083 stations. It has the world’s fourth largest railway network after those of the United States, Russia and China. The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country and carry over 30 million passengers and 2.8 million tons of freight daily. It is one of the world’s largest commercial or utility employers, with more than 1.6 million employees. As to rolling stock, IR owns over 230,000 freight wagons, 60,000 coaches and 9,000 locomotives.
