The Pattinampakkam police of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday arrested director Shankar’s production manager Udaya Kumar (42) and Surendran (44), an employee of Tirupathi Tirumala Films. The police suspect Surendra connived with Udaya Kumar to show a forged transaction to claim Telugu rights over the film for a price of Rs 27 crore. They then contacted cinema theatres in Andhra Pradesh, and allegedly collected Rs 2 crore from them as advance.
The police started cracking soon after Sun Network, which is producing the movie, lodged a complaint on Tuesday. Police said Udaya Kumar forged a letter head of Sun Films, claiming that the Telugu rights of Enthiran’ had been given to Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao of Tirupathi Tirumala Films for Rs 27 crores.
Sun Pictures clarified that it had not sold any territorial rights of the film. “Be it Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, overseas or satellite rights, we have not sold it to anyone,” said Sun Pictures COO Hansraj Saxena.
