Two of the most celebrated Hollywood stars and Academy Award winners Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have come together for a psychological thriller Righteous Kill, directed by Jon Avnet of Red Corner and Fried Green Tomatoes fame and written by Russell Gewirtz, who earlier wrote Inside Man. The cast also features Curtis Jackson who acted in Get Rich or Die Tryin.

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino act as veteran Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan of New York City police on the trail of a serial killer in the film Righteous Kill, which is releasing world-wide on September 12.

After 30 years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan should be ready for retirement, but before they can retire, they are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have a connection to a case they solved a long time ago.

Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four line poem justifying the killing. When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals who have escaped the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops could not do.

The similarities between the recent killings and their earlier case raise a nagging question: Did they put the wrong man behind bars?
