RGV’s Department has Hollywood inspiration?

Speculation is rife in Bollywood that Ram Gopal Varma’s forthcoming film Department, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Dagubatti, might actually be inspired by the Hollywood thriller The Departed. This film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by William Monahan starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga and Alec Baldwin.

The Departed is an official English remake of Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs. RGV’s protégé JD Chakravarthy made a film in Telugu titled Homam which is an unofficial copy of The Departed. Homam was a hit in Telugu.

Bollywood watchers say that RGV’s Department might also be sourcing some content from two other Hollywood films – L.A. Confidential starring Danny De Vito and Russel Crowe and Keanu Reaves’ Street Kings.

Some say, that RGV’s Department has the plot based on the shooting down of Hemant Karkare , Chief of ATS, during the Mumbai 26/11 terror attack.
