With Prakash Jha’s forthcoming film Aarakshan, dealing with caste based reservations due for release next month, the Republican Party of India chief Ramdas Athavale said that his party will take action to stop the screening of the film if it is found that it has taken an anti-dalit stance.
Athavale says that he is unable to understand why the film’s producers are unwilling to show it to the National Commission of Scheduled Castes (NCSC) if there is nothing to hide. He said he will watch the film after its release and then decide about the future action.
Aarakshan stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, is about reservations in the Indian education system. Khan plays a Dalit teacher. The censor board has cleared the film with a U/A certificate.
