A Hollywood production house is making a film which is adapted from Yann Martel’s bestselling novel, “Life Of Pi”, which is set partly in Pondicherry.
Ang Lee, who directed films like “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” and “Brokeback Mountain”, will helm the film “Life Of Pi”. The famed Asian director was in India recently to scout for locations and to meet Indian actors as the Pondicherry protagonist Piscine ‘Pi’ Patel is an Indian character.
In Mumbai, Ang Lee even visited the sets of Farhan Akhtar’s “Kartik Calling Kartik”. He spent some time with producer Ritesh Sidhwani and the director. He is also said to have seen clippings of some young Bollywood actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Neil Nitin Mukesh.
According to Bollywood sources, Lee is said to be seriously considering casting Ranbir Kapoor for the character of Piscine ‘Pi’ Patel in the film “Life Of Pi”.
Originally, the Hollywood producers wanted Manoj Night Shyamalan of “The Sixth Sense” fame to direct this film because of its Indian background, but finally the project went to Ang Lee.
