Rakta Charitra 2 takes off from where the film’s Part 1 concluded and is a gripping drama of vengence and violence.
Pratap Ravi (Vivek Oberoi) has grown in political stature and becomes a power center to reckon with. Surya (Suriya) develops a strong animosity and vengence towards Pratap Ravi who is known to be responsible for his father’s liquidation as well as other family members.
Surya attempts to kill Pratap by bombing the latter’s motor convoy and lands in jail where he befriends Muddu Krishna (Ajaz Khan). Pratap has his own plans to eliminate Surya. Then there is the police officer Mohan Prasad (Sudeep) handling the case. Surya’s wife Bhavani (Priyamani) gets sucked into the power play of politics. The murderous rivalry between Pratap and Surya leads to a violent climax.
Vivek Oberoi shows a distinct difference in his performance as compared to the first part. He essays his role with finesse.
Surya has ample scope to show case his already well-known talents. Priyamani is very good in her role. Shatrughan Sinha is a politico personified. Sudeep is intense and convincing. Ajaz Khan looks like a real killer. Tanikella Bharani and Subhalekha Sudhakar fit their roles well. All others do well with author-backed cameos.
Ram Gopal Varma once again proves that he is a master story teller when he deals with violent dramas. The screenplay is fool-proof. The dialogues have punch. Sometimes the silence is more audible and meaningful.
The narration is thoroughly gripping. Music adds to the pace of story-telling. Cinematography enhances the narrative style. In spite of all the vengence and violence, no one misses how the politicians are capable of fishing in troubled waters.
Even those who have not seen Rakta Charitra Part 1 can feel the intense drama and violent emotions of this Part 2. This film is worth watching for the sheer gripping narration of the story. A well made film, even if you detest violence.
