Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu’s 66th birth anniversary was celebrated on March 15 at the Film Nagar Cultural Center.
Veteran Director KB Tilak announced the constitution of Raghupathi Venkayya Academy which will present Lifetime Awards to the deserving from all sections of film making.
In this context, producer D Rama Naidu has taken the initiative to get installed a seven-foot statue of Raghupathi Venkayya in Film Nagar.
Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was a pioneer in the Indian film industry. He was the first owner of movie theatres in Madras ( now Chennai) like Gaiety Talkies in Mount Road ( now Anna Salai), Crown Theater in Mint Street and Globe Theater in Parasuwakka.
Venkaiah was also the producer and director of the first few silent Indian movies and talkies. In 1919, he started a production company called Star of East Films and a film studio called Glass Studio and made films like Meenakshi Kalyanam, Gajendra Moksham, Mathsyavatharam and Nandanaar. His film Bhishma Pratigna was the first telugu mookie movie.
