Shah Rukh Khan’s prestigious film Ra.One, which is due to release on Diwali, October 26, is faced with a copyright infringement case. Television producer and writer Yash Patnaik filed a case in the Bombay High Court seeking injunction on the release of RA.One on the grounds of copyrights violation.
Patnaik had claimed that he had developed the concept of an Indian superhero, where the lead character is called ‘One’ and had registered it with the Film Writers Association in December 2006. He was in talks with Mushtaq Sheikh to develop the concept. A few months ago he found that Sheikh had been credited for writing the story and screenplay of Ra.One.
A Bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice R.S. Dalvi, stating that prima facie, there is a copyright infringement, has directed Shah Rukh Khan to pay Rs. 1 crore as deposit by Saturday before going ahead with the release of his film Ra.One.
The High court will hear arguments in the case in due course of time.
