Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan gets U/A certificate
Prakash Jha’s forthcoming film Aarakshan dealing with the issue of caste-based reservation received a U/A Certificate without a single cut from the Censor Board. Because the film depicts a socio-political drama based on caste-based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions, a lot of people and groups are worried that the film would rake up unnecessary controversies.
Pro-reservation groups were concerned that the film would offend people of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Castes. Even anti-reservation groups were worried that the film may be too pro-reservation.
A relieved Amitabh Bachchan, who plays a professor in the film, posted on Twitter: “Aarakshan gets a clean chit from the censor board: silences the critics. ‘Aarakshan’. This speaks volumes about the responsibility and sensitivity with which the film has been written and directed. This certification should silence all critics who thought the film will upset sentiments of people from backward castes.”
