Anusha Rizvi made her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Peepli Live which was India’s official entry for the 83rd Academy Awards.
Rizvi is now directing her second film titled Sea Of Poppies which is a screen adaptation of Amitav Ghosh’s novel by the same title. The book was shortlisted for Man Booker prize.
Sea Of Poppies is an adventure set against the backdrop of the opium trade during the British rule in India during the nineteenth century. The film also has a love angle, a revenge saga, adventure and action set against the backdrop of the sea. It will also delve into the history of India, the formation of Mumbai as a city and the revenues that were generated from the opium trade.
