Pandit Ravi Shankar to be honoured with doctorate

Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar will be honoured by the University of Melbourne, Australia, with their highest award, the Doctorate Degree of Laws, for his “outstanding commitment to music and humanity”.

The honorary degree of Doctor of Laws is awarded by the University to recognise people who are distinguished by eminent public service or outstanding cultural achievement.

The degree will be conferred by the University of Melbourne Chancellor and Chairman of the Australia India Institute, Alex Chernov on the sitar legend on March 19.
