The state government for the first time held on Sunday a public function to give away the Nandi film awards for the years 2005 and 2006 at the Lal Bahadur Stadium. About 25,000 people attended the award function. The speech by YSR referred to the development of film industry. It is interesting to note that all the film stars who pledged support to Congress have been recepients of one award or the other.
The best actor award for the year 2005 was given to Mahesh Babu for the film Athadu while Trisha bagged the best actress award for the Nuvvu Vasthanante Nenu Vadhantana. The Best film award for the year 2005 was won by Pothe Poni directed by Thammareddy Bharadwaja. Srihari, Bhanupriya, Sunil, Channdramohan, S.P. Balasubramanyam, Nityasantoshini also won Nandi film awards for 2005.
Actor Nagarjuna won the best actor award for the year 2006 for his film Sri Ramadasu while actress Nanditha Das won the best actress award for her film Kaamli. The other awardees for 2006 were Praksah Raj, Kota Srinivas Rao, Sai Kumar, Venu Madhav, Eeshwari, director Shekhar Kammula, singers Jesudas and Sunitha.
The NTR National Awards for the years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 were given to actor Krishna, Music director Ilayaraja, actor Ambarish and actress Waheda Rehman respectively. The Raghupathi Venkiah award for 2005 went to senior producer M. S. Reddy and for the year 2006 to D. Ramanaidu.
