Nagarjuna’s Rajanna deals with caste conflicts

Nagarjuna’s period film Rajanna, which is written and being directed by Vijayendra Prasad, is said to be dealing with caste conflicts.

The protagonist in the film is a tribal chief, who transcends caste barriers to unite all weaker sections, to fight the infamous Razakars, unleashed by the then Nizam to suppress the Indian freedom struggle.

In his efforts to bring together all the low-caste groups, the tribal leader has to encounter opposition from upper caste elders.

The film is based on the life and times of Hanumanthu, who won a place in the history of Telangana for his fierce resistance to the Razakar movement.
