Music maestro Bhupen Hazarika breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, Mumbai, on Saturday. He was suffering from respiratory and kidney failure. His long-time companion and filmmakerKalpana Lajmi was beside him when he died.
The 86-year-old Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner was confined to his hospital bed since June 29. He has been a poet, journalist, singer, lyricist, musician, filmmaker and writer.
Bhupen Hazarika, who has a genius for weaving a magical tapestry out of traditional Assamese music and lyrics, is regarded as one of the greatest living cultural communicators of South Asia.
