Director Mani Ratnam has dropped his Rs 200 crore period film in which Vikram and Mahesh Babu were to star. This film was to be based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan that deals with the life and times of Raja Raja Chola. The film was to be produced by mKalanidhi Maran of Sun Pictures.
However, in view of the 2G spectrum scam where Dayanidhi Maran had to resign along with the electoral debacle of DMK in the recent Tamil Nadu elections, have forced Kalanidhi Maran of Sun Pictures to drop the Mani Ratnam Project.
The news now is Mani Ratnam is planning a romantic musical with the lead roles being played by new faces. The film will have music by AR Rahman and
cinematography by Santosh Sivan. Pre-production works are in progress and the film will go on floors in October.
