Mani Ratnam’s Gharshana to be remade

The remake rights of Mani Ratnam’s 1988 film Gharshana ( Agni Natchchathiram in Tamil) have been bought by Thandra Ramesh of Balaji Real Media Pvt Ltd. The remake will be bilingual in Telugu and Tamil. The star cast and the director for the remake are being finalised.

Mani Ratnam’s Gharshana, dubbed from Tamil, starred Prabhu, Karthik, Amala and Nirosha in the lead roles. The theme of the film was sibilant rivalry between two step-brothers. The film was known for its taut screenplay and great music by Ilyaraja. It would be interesting to see who among the present actors reprise the roles of Prabhu and Karthik.

Thandra Ramesh is presently producing a bilingual film Jagan Mohan IPS, starring Gopichand and Nayanatara, directed by Bhoopati Pandian.
