Mahesh Babu and Vikram will star in a historical film to be directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Kalanidhi Maran of Sun Pictures. Mahesh has confirmed this project in his Twitter post.
The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan that deals with the life and times of Raja Raja Chola. The film is being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. A special international version in English will also be made. Music for the film will be composed by Ilayaraaja.
The script for the film is being finalised. Period costumes are being designed to suit the 1200 AD period. There will be a large number of extras playing soldiers as the film has a war scenes which will also feature horses and elephants.
The film estimated to cost Rs 200 crore will go on floors in October.
