National award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar is now making the film “Jail” with Neil Nitin Mukhesh in the lead.

Known to make films on realistic themes, the director is said to have based the plot of “Jail” on the real life incidents of Alistair Pereira and Sanjeev Nanda who were involved in hit-and-run accidents.
Sanjeev Nanda was convicted for killing six people including 3 policemen while driving his BMW at a break neck speed in Delhi, in January 1999.

Alistair Pereira on the other hand got away with only a six-month imprisonment sentence awarded by the trial court even after killing seven people in a hit-and-run case in Mumbai in 2006.

In “Jail” Madhur Bhandarkar explores the provisions and lacuna of some of the Legal Acts that govern accidents.
