The new executive body of Movie Artistes Association(MAA) has come up with a slew of measures to assist its members, particularly the poor artistes. First, they have decided to create a corpus fund of Rs 10 Crores, the interest on which will be utilized to assist the families of deceased artistes by way of monthly pensions and educational assistance to the children and also to bail out poor artistes who are devoid of work.
Dasari Narayana Rao appealed to all the actors, big and small, to generously contribute to the corpus fund. There is a move by MAA to make it compulsory for all Bollywood and Kollywood actors, who act in Telugu films, to become members of MAA. The subscription fee is Rs 1 Lakh.
MAA also wants to approach the state government to allot 10 acres of land, which will be utilized to give housing plots to those artistes who do not own a home.
