Maa Naanna Chiranjeevi is a family drama that explores the relationship between an arrogant city bred wife and soft mannered rural based husband. It also deals with the trust and love between father and son.
Chiranjeevulu (Jagapathi Babu), a rich landlord in a village, is a good-at-heart person and is married to Sandhya (Neelima) who is ambitious. She persuades
her husband to invest in shares in the stock market and the global meltdown wipes out all that investment. She then manipulates him to invest in a software company which is also lost because of worldwide recession.
After losing all money, Neelima gets hold of a job and she leaves the village. However, their son Vishwanath (Master Athulith) prefers to stay with his father. Chiranjeevulu has dreams of giving a good education to his son and he relocates in the city. He gets cheated by Rohith (Jayaparakash Reddy) and loses all the money. He then embarks on all sorts of odd jobs and finally gets Vishwanath admitted to a corporate school.
Will Neelima rejoin Chiranjeevulu? The answer to this question forms the rest of the story.
Jagapathi Babu excels in his role as a good husband and affectionate father. Master Athulith is very natural and is a good foil to the drama. Neelima does well as an ambitious wife. Brahmanandam, Ali and MS Narayana give good comic relief. Jayaprakash Reddy and Telangana Sakuntala are their usual selves. All others are adequate in their roles.
Director Arun Prasad succeeds in bringing out the best in Jagapathi Babu by delineating his role well. In spite of some sentimatal incidents, the story runs smoothly with a bit of surprise here and there. The only drawback is that much of the incidents that occur are easily predictable.
But, somehow we feel Jagapathi Babu instead of doing routine odd jobs to educate his son should have shown some rustic nerve and rural wisdom to
earn money. That would have been more innovative. Being an agriculturist and with some minimum academic qualification, he could have been shown to do some marketing in agricultural value added products in the city.
Anyway, the film makes you remember some old movies while he does those odd jobs. Music by Hemachandra is normal, nothing outstanding and Cinematography by Bharani K Dharan is very good.
Maa Naanna Chiranjeevi is an out and out Jagapathi Babu film and for his fans it is a must-see. The film also can be enjoyed by those who prefer family drama sprinkled with emotional crises and sentimental spices.
