Lara Dutta to play Big B’s wife in “The Actor”
Pritish Nandy is makiing a film titled “The Actor” inspired by the life and times of thespian Dilip Kumar. In his era, Dilip saab has been the super star and was involved in many romances off the screen. Finally, he married actress Saira Banu who is at least two decades and odd years younger than him.
The veteran actor was born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan at Mohallah Khudadad, on the back of Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Peshawar on December 11, 1922. After he migrated to Bombay Amiya Chakravarty gave him the screen name Dilip Kumar and starred him in Jwar Bhata (1944). With films like Andaz, Deedar (1951), Amar (1954), Devdas (1955) and Madhumati (1958) he became a household name. The film Mughal-e-Azam made him the super star.
In Pritish Nandy’s “The Actor”, Big B portrays the role of a 68 year old husband and Lara Dutta (31) plays his wife and the film deals with generation-challenged relationships.
Amitabh Bachchan earlier played such roles in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Nishabd” with 19-year-old Jiah Khan and in “Cheeni Kum” with 36 year old Tabu.
