Kick derives its title from the ‘kick’ the hero gets while doing anything.
Kalyan (Ravi Teja) appears to be a reckless wagabond doing odd jobs, but he is basically a high IQ character with adequate academic record. He likes challenges and gets a ‘kick’ out of taming difficult situations.
Kalyan falls in love with Naina(Ileana) and she reciprocates. To fructify her romance, she asks Kalyan to join a decent job and he obliges. When everything seem to be working out properly, Naina comes to know that Kalyan has already quit his job. She gets peeved and leaves him and goes to Malaysia.
Naina’s parents fix her marriage with a police officer Krishna (Shaam). Krishna is actually on a special assignment in Malaysia to nab a notorious international thief.
Kalyan also lands in Malaysia on another dangerous mission that would give him the ‘big kick’. The rest of the story deals with how Kalyan wins back Naina in the background of revealing some home truths about Kalyan and Krishna.
Ravi Teja gives a stellar performance with his unique style of dialogue delivery and quick-fire action stunts. Ileana is ravishing and has her moments of emoting excellence.
Shaam gives a spirited account of his role. Brahmananda, Jayaprakash Reddy, Chalapathi Rao and Kota Srinivas Rao, as usual, give acompetent performances. All other actors fit well into comprehensively etched roles and cameos.
Vakkantam Vamsi has given a well-knit story which is complemented by Abburi Ravi’s apt dialogues. The good lyrics of Seetharama Shastry have been given lovely tunes by S S Thaman.
Rasool Ellore proved once again why he is such premium cinematographer in Tollywood. Gowtham Raju’s editing is crisp and has enhanced the narration speed.
The screenplay and direction by Surender Reddy is top notch. He has certainly mastered his craft.
Rush to your nearest cinema theatre and get a ‘kick’ out of Ravi Teja’s flick… Kick.
