Cashing in on the huge mass popularity of Katrina Kaif, a big Bollywood production house is planning a remake of Ramesh Sippy’s Seeta Aur Geeta (1972) where Hema Malini played a double role. The remake rights have already been bought and the script work is in progress.
The story of Seeta Aur Geeta is being given a totally contemporary touch and the two roles which Katrina will play are being fine-tuned so that both characters appeal to the present day audience.
The production house is said to be in discussions with Dibakar Banerjee to direct the remake. He earlier made Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Love Sex Aur Dhoka. He is now shooting shooting Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi starrer Shanghai Express. According to sources, two other high profile directors are also being approached.
Once the script and director are finalised, the names of the actors to play the male leads will be short-listed. Since, Seeta Aur Geeta is a woman-centric story, top stars may not be willing to play the heroes.
