Bollywood is somehow averse to making children’s films. Since last couple of years animation films have been made. But a trend has been started with films like Taare Zameen Par, Stanley Ka Dabba and Chillar Party where top stars like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan had been involved.
Now top producer Karan Johar of Dharma Productions is making a film for kids titled Gippy which is being directed by debutante Sonam Nair who earlier assisted Ayan Mukerji on Wake Up Sid. The film focuses on the story about a 13 year old girl. The makers underwent extensive auditions and finalized Delhi-based 13 year old Riya Vij who plays the title role in the film.
A major portion of the film has already been shot in a school in Shimla while currently the film is being shot in Mumbai. Being made on a small budget as compared to most Dharma films, Gippy will wrap up shooting within the next ten days and will be released in October.
