Kadali Movie Review
Maniratnam’s most prestigious venture starring Gautam Karik and Tulasi is released yesterday in grand manner. The film started making news since its beginning as it marks the debut of children of yesteryear stars Karthik and Radha and also the comeback of ‘Bombay’ hero Aravind Swamy. Let us see how Gautham, Tulasi’s ‘Kadali’ strikes movie lovers.
Story line of the film is Good Vs Bad. Here the bad is Bergmans (Arjun) and good is Samuel Fernandez aka Sam (Aravind Swamy). They are trained at Christian seminary to attain priest-hood. As Sam is dedicated and sincere a few differences arise between him and Bergmans, a fun loving guy and both choose different paths. Thomas (karthik) is an orphan who grows under the shelter of Samuel in a small fishing hamlet on sea-side. Soon Thomas falls in love with Bergmans’ daughter Beatrice (Thulasi Nair). Both Sam and Berchmans are keen to change the fate of Thomas by showing him their values. Which side does Thomas choose to be on and what elements shape up his choices and his ultimate destiny form the overall story of the film.
Arjun and Arvind performances
Lack of comedy
Kadali is all about good VS bad and the middle characters are essayed by Aravind Swamy and Arjun. In fact the two prominent stars got more screen time and importance than the debutant actors, where the love story is interwoven between these two famous characters Sam and Bergman in the backdrop of sea.
The first hour of the movie is excellent, but as the story progresses Mani has shown the struggle between the good and bad. The story moves at a very slow pace and it’s only in the second half the love story takes off. Production values are of top standard. Rahman’s music and background score is good. Rajiv Menon’s cinematography captured the beauty of nature in attractive manner. Editing of Srikar Prasad is fine.
Technically is good, but content wise an average fare
