Jism 2 is described by Pooja Bhatt as an erotic thriller; but the movie is neither erotic nor thrilling. It is intended to be a dark film with some of the sinister goings on in the secretive intelligence agencies.
After romping porn star Izna (Sunny Leone), intelligence officer Ayaan Thakur (Arunoday Singh) wants Izna to trap her ex-lover Kabir Wilson (Randeep Hooda) who is a cop turned rogue assassin. Intelligence chief Guru Saldanah (Zakaria) offers Izna ten crores for this job. Izna and Ayaan go to Galle in Sri Lanka as an engaged couple. Izna initially wants to avenge Kabir because he left her high and dry after a love affair. She gets close to Kabir who can’t resist her charms. Then things take an unexpected turn. Kabir is suspicious and Ayaan falls in love with Izna. Now, whom will she choose?
Sunny Leone has a great figure but in her debut she is unable to perform her role convincingly. Even her intimate scenes are listless. Randeep Hooda too is off gear. His character is supposed to be going crazy in the head and it doesn’t reflect in his performance. Arunoday Singh just goes through his motions. Arif Zakaria is uncomfortable. Mohan Agashe has nothing much to do.
For once, Mahesh Bhatt has come up with a story that has the potential but doesn’t deliver the ‘thrilling’ part of it. There are too many loose ends. The characters have not been etched properly. The dialogues at some places sound silly and out of place. The screenplay makes the narration yawningly slow paced. Pooja Bhatt and cinematographer Nigam Bomzan tried to give an aesthetic output. But the beauty of the frames cannot salvage a lazy storytelling style. The music somehow did not add to the mood creation.
Jism 2 will be compared with Jism and if you expect the sequel to be more exciting, you will be proved wrong. Sexciting posters and promos notwithstanding, you get the feeling that Pooja Bhatt should have handed over the megaphone to the likes of Mohit Suri or Vikram Bhatt. Jism 2 is a disappointment.
