Right from the time, multiple National Award winning director Prakash Jha started shooting for his film Aarakshan, which deals with reservations, it is causing anxiety among many sections of the society particularly from politicians. Many are apprehensive that Aarakshan may cause a bitter controversy and create tensions among certain sections of society.
P.L.Punia, the chairperson of the Commission for National Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes (SC/ST), asked the director, Prakash Jha to screen the film Aarakshan for him and the members of the SC/ST commission. But Jha is adamant. And he refused to screen the film. He said, “How can he decide that my film is provocative and will incite class differences without seeing a single minute of the film? And why should I show my film to anyone? Today, the SC/ST feels that my film is against the backward classes, tomorrow a few more organisations may want to see my film to decide whether it is beneficial or dangerous for a certain group of people. Let the Censor Board decide whether my film is damaging in any sense. I won’t let it be censored by self appointed censors.” Aarakshan is due for release on August 12.
