Chinese martial artist, actor, Wushu champion, and international film star Jet Li has been named as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), which has lauded his efforts on global disaster relief and support for the well-being of young people.
Jet Li is known for his films Shaolin Tample, Leathal Weapon, Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon and other popular hit films.
Li, born in Beijing, is expected to use his worldwide celebrity status to raise awareness on key health issues.
After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Li took a break from acting and set up a charitable foundation to support international disaster relief effort. He has also been involved with emergency response to earthquakes in China.
