It is a well known fact that Telugu cinema industry is being harassed by DVD piracy mafia. According to sources these piracy gangs make illegal DVDs of soon to be released films and then threaten the producers that the pirated DVDs will be released even before the theatrical release unless lots of money is paid. Recently the producers of “Rann” are said to have paid Rs 50 lakhs to a person who claimed as the original author of the story.
The recent trend shows that when a film becomes a big hit someone or the other puts in a claim that his/her story is stolen and made into a film. He/she then file a case in the courts to stay the release of the film something like a legal blackmail. Such claims have been made on the stories of Ram Charan Tej’s “Magadheera” and NTR Jr starrer “Adurs”. Now such a claim has been made against the forthcoming Daggubati Rana’s film “Leader” directed by National award winning Sekhar Kammula.
Is it really plagiarism or script mafia that is plaguing Tollywood?
