I Am Kalam India’s official entry for Oscars?
The film I Am Kalam has received critical acclaim and has been doing reasonably well at the box office, particularly the multiplex circuit.
A strong lobby is building up to nominate the film I Am Kalam as India’s official entry for the Acedemy Awards as critics and cine buffs feel that the film has a certain dignity in line with World cinema. The film is being considered as a path breaking film like Taare Zameen Par, Udaan and Rang De Basanti.
I Am Kalam is directed by Nila Madhab Panda and the film revolves around Chhotu, a poor Rajasthani boy, who is inspired by the life of former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, and develops a strong desire to learn to read. Harsh Mayar, a Delhi slum boy who played Chhotu, has won the hearts of the audience with his performance.
The film premiered at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival on May 12. It has been showcased in various film festivals and has bagged various awards and honors.
