Hyderabadi singer Mohammed Irfan Ali lent his voice to Behne De song for Maniratnam’s film “Raavan”. The 24-year-old city lad who gained popularity for competing in Voice of India shares his experience of working with A.R. Rahman.
Irfan says that he owes his break to his guru S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, who had promised to recommend him to A.R. Rahman. Nearly 18 months passed before Irfan received a call from Rahman’s office.
Incidentally, Irfan was clueless that the song he was recording was for Raavan. He thought the track was for Rahman’s personal album. But when he was told that it had been penned by Gulzar, he figured it was for a movie. HeI only realised that it was for “Raavan” after browsing through Rahman’s official website before the film’s music launch and saw his name in the credits.
