Help Movie Review
Help is a horror film with the spirit of the dead sister seeking revenge. This film appears to be inspired by the Hollywood spooky film Mirrors.
A film maker Vic (Bobby Deol) is married to Pia (Mugdha Godse) and their marriage is going through a rough patch. They have to rush to Mauritius where Pia’s father suffers a cardiac stroke. Once in the house, Pia recollects her scary past when her young twin sister is killed. The spirit of the dead sister is now trying to seek revenge and there are unexplained and sudden deaths around. Vic who does not believe in supernatural phenomena consultsparapsychologist, Dr. Aditya Motwani (Shreyas Talpade). A series of the hoary and scary incidents of the past are revealed. The rest of the story deals with what Vic does to save his wife who is pregnant.
In a horror film, the actors will not have much scope except to show the emotions of fear, anxiety, and anguish with a scared look on the face. Bobby Deol essays his role well and Mugdha too performs well and utilises the strength of the role she is playing. Shreyas is convincing in his role as a parapsychologist. All others do their chores according to the script.
All horror films made in India somehow fail to impress and create that necessary edge-of-the-seat spooky feeling. The story is good and logical but the Bollywood commercial elements make the screenplay a little weary. But as the narration moves on, the tempo picks up but the predictability of the story somehow steals the zing out of the film. Dialogues and background music is good. CInematography shows technical superiority.
The film Help does not come under the category of see-immediately, but can be seen for the performances of Bobby and Mugdha. The film is also different from earlier Bollywood horror flicks.
