Khap, the movie on honour killings in Haryana, had to face no entry board in the same state. The film was released across the country on Friday, except in Khap land – Haryana. It seems the cinema owners in Haryana decided not to screen the movie in the entire state as they did not want to provoke Khap Panchayats who were against its screening. Posters of the film were also removed from cinema halls.
Khap, directed by Ajai Sinha, starring Om Puri, Mohnish Bahl, Govind Namdev and Uvika Chaudhary, highlights the role of the Khap Mahapanchayats in honour killings in Haryana. The film ran into trouble on Friday after many exhibitors in Haryana refused to screen the film fearing violence from Jat supporters. Many Jat leaders of the state had threatened to protest against the screening of the film, claiming it was anti-khap and showed the traditional panchayats in poor light. They had asked the public to boycott the film and issued veiled threats of violence if it was screened.
