Ram Gopal Varma , born on April 7, 1962 has the academic qualifications of an engineer but chose to be a film director, screenwriter and producer. Varma has directed, written and produced films across multiple genres, psychological thrillers, underworld gang warfare, politician-criminal nexus, and musicals, that too in multiple language.
“Shiva” (1989) in Telugu was his first film as director and “Rann” (2010) is his most recent one. He gained recognition in Bollywood, with “Rangeela” (1995). The next film he directed was Satya (1998), which won six Filmfare Awards, including the Critics Award for Best Film. “Satya”, together with his 2002 film “D Company” which he directed and had won seven Filmfare Awards. The most notable and successful films Varma directed include “Kshana Kshanam” (1991), “Kaun” (1999), “Jungle” (2000), “Bhoot” (2003), “Sarkar “(2005) and “Sarkar Raj” (2008).
At present, RGV is busy producing and directing “Rakta Charitra” which is based on the life and times of late Parital Ravi who was a prominent Andhra Pradesh politician.
Amitabh Bachchan says that RGV has a passion for films which he hasn’t seen so far in any Indian film maker.
