Gummadi is no more
Veteran Tollywood actor Gummadi Venkateswar Rao breathed his last at 11.30 pm yesterday at Care Hospital Hyderabad where he was admitted a few days ago for heart complications. He is 83 and bereaved by five daughters and two sons.
Gummadi was born on July 9, 1927, at Ravikampadu in Guntur District. In 1942 he made his debut in a stage play. He entered the film world in 1950. He is known foe his charater roles in films like “Kuladaivam”, “Mayabazar” and “Maa Inti Mahalaxmi”. He received the National Award for Best Supprting Actor for his role in “Mahamantri Timmarasu”. He received the prestigious Raghupathi Venkayya Award for life time achievement ffom the government of Andhra Pradesh.
Gummadi acted in more than 500 films that included the genres of mythology, social drama and historical. His last film was “ Sri Kasinayana Charitra”. He acted with all top actors of his time like NTR, ANR, SV Ranga Rao, Savithri, Jamuna among others.
