Gulzar to direct a film

Veteran lyricist-poet-filmmaker Gulzar has announced that he is writing a script and will soon direct a film. He is considered as a sensitive filmmaker and has earlier directed around twenty films which won him critical acclaim. His best known films include Aandhi, Parichay, Angoor, Ijaazat, Maachis, Mausam, Khushboo, Koshish among others. His last film was Hu Tu Tu in 1999.

Gulzar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contribution to the arts, and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. He has also won a number of National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards in various categories. Gulzar has won more than a dozen Filmfare awards for best lyrics, story and dialogues. He won the best director award for Mausam.

In 2009, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Jai Ho in the film Slumdog Millionaire . On 31 January 2010, the same song won him a Grammy Award in the category of Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media.

Gulzar’s film is eagerly awaited.
