Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, known for such evergreen melodies like Chupke chupke raat din, Kal chaudvi ki chand, Hungama hai kyun berpa, Kiya hai pyar jisé and Yeh dil yeh paagal dil mera, has been chosen by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali to render a ghazal for his next film Ram Leela.
The ghazal has been written by Bhansali and he himself composed the music. The lyrics suggest a deep affinity between human love and godliness. The recording will be done next month. This is the first time that Ghulam Ali is recording specifically for a film. Earlier many of his popular ghazals were bought to be used in Bollywood films.
Ram Leela is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and stars Ranveer Singh and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. The shooting of the film is expected to start in the last quarter of this year.
