Genelia D’Souza was born on August 5, 1980 in Mumbai. She studied at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai and joined St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree of Management Studies. She came into reckoning with a Parker Pen commercial Ad film along with Amitabh Bachchan and a Fair and Lovely Ad with Srikanth.
Genelia made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 with Tujhe Meri Kasam opposite Ritesh Deshmukh. The film did not do well at the box office. The top Tamil director, Shankar cast her in a leading role in his Tamil version of Boys in 2003, which was a box-office hit and launched her career in south India.
Genelia went on to star in successful Telugu films including, Satyam, Samba and Sye. She then paired with actor Venkatesh in Subhash Chandra Bose. She played the heroine in the Tamil film Sachein with Vijay. Her second Hindi movie was Masti and was again opposite Ritesh.
Genelia’s Telugu film, Bommarillu, with Siddharth, was a commercial success and she won the Filmfare Award as the Best Actress for her performance. She was also in Santhosh Subramaniam, the Tamil remake of Bommarillu. Her debut film in Kannada Satya In Love grossed 4 crores in its opening week thus setting a new record in the Kannada film industry.
Genelia acted in Mere Baap Pehle Aap with Akshaye Khanna. She finally made her breakthrough in Bollywood starring in the blockbuster, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na opposite Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan. The movie released in July 4, 2008 was a super hit all over India and overseas.
