Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur is caught in a peculiar censor board deadlock.
The CBFC has cleared the coal mafia gangland saga with cuts for ‘Adult’ viewing however it is yet to be given a go-ahead by the censor board as it is insisting on a disclaimer right at the beginning of the film, declaring that the events and circumstances described in the film are a fictionalised and dramatised version of the reality.
However, Anurag, known to be a stickler with regard to his convictions, is in no mood to oblige.
The film revolves around the coal mafia in Dhanbad ( Jharkhand) and Anurag could not shoot the film there. Even the residents of Wasseypur are protesting the title as it may affect their reputation.
Gangs of Wasseypur, which won critical acclaim at the recent Cannes Film Festival, is scheduled to release on June 22.
