Producer Bandla Ganesh whose film Gabbar Singh is a box-office hit had to shell down a whopping Rs 25 lakhs to the Sippys for the use of Gabbar Singh as title.
When the film was half-way through in production, the Sippys gave a legal notice that Gabbar Singh cannot be used as title since they hold the rights of Sholay.
Since the hero Pawan Kalyan names himself as Gabbar Singh in the film and it is intrinsic to the story, both Ganesh and director Harish Shankar had no other alternative name or title. Thus Ganesh had to pay the hefty royalty and get a no objection certificate from the Sippys. Anyway, Ganesh is now laughing all the to the bank as Gabbar Singh continues to draw footfalls at the theatres.
